Hello, my name is Dennis and I’m the co-pastor for Community of Grace Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Minneapolis. We are a new church start that meets at Lutheran Church of Christ the Redeemer, 5440 Penn Ave. South in Minneapolis, every Sunday at 6pm. I wanted to write a note to invite you and to talk a little about our church.

If I could think of a few things to describe our little band, it would be that we are:

Organic. Our church is pretty simple. We don’t have a master plan out there, except to be a community of people who seek to know this person called Jesus. We do that by meeting weekly for worship and fellowshipping together. If you’re coming to Community of Grace and expecting programs galore for the children, tons of interests groups and all that, well, we don’t have that. We are trying something new and figuring it out as we go along. If you are adventurous and would like to join this journey, then Community of Grace is for you. Experimental. In relation to all that organic stuff, we tend to be experimental and when I mean experimental, I don’t mean avant-garde, but simply being open for to trying new things. We started a contemplative worship service using several liturgies that are popular in Lutheran circles. Sometimes we try something and it doesn’t work and we stop it. Failure isn’t a bad word around here. It allows us to learn from the past and guide us in the future.

Communal. Church should be about forming a community of people and that’s what we are trying to do. We are trying to do some more communal things besides worshipping and eating together. We plan on doing more community praying and service activies as well. We are a place where you can’t be anonymous.

Missional. We are big into reaching out to the world in acts of charity and justice. We select a local or international group as a mission focus each month. When we finally get a budget, we hope to give around about 15% to missions. If the church isn’t helping the “least of these” as Christ did, then we aren’t do our job.

Inclusive. We welcome everyone to the doors of our church and we mean that. Gay or straight, liberal or conservative, black, white, brown, purple, you are welcome here. Jesus met and touched people from all walks of life and if he did that, then his followers should do that as well.

Human. Okay, every church has humans in it, but we are a church we are truly human. We don’t pretend to be perfect, in fact we are pretty honest about our imperfections. What is great is that we are loved by God no matter what. Hence the name Community of Grace.

This is what we are all about. I want to invite you to come and visit. You don’t have to have all this Christianity thing down to come and be a part of us. If you are looking for place where people are stumbling together to find out the whys of life, then you might want to consider us. If you want to know more, please vist our website at http://www.communityofgracemn.orgHope to see you on Sunday!
